The mission of Second String Puppets is to foster more creative joy in our lives and to inspire play through puppets.

Naomi Kraut has taught art to toddlers, breakdancing to teenagers, and ballroom dance to octogenarians. After graduating from Carleton College with a B.A. in English, she worked at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Walker Art Center, and the Arthur Murray Dance Studio of Minneapolis. Upon returning to Chicago, she ran the summer arts camp at the Old Town School of Folk Music before moving to Massachusetts to earn a master's in education from Harvard. She taught high school English in the Chicago area prior to relocating to North Carolina, where she earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from NC State. As a teacher educator, she taught graduate students earning their masters and teaching license at NC State and at Duke. She also served as the director of the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Duke.
Naomi was a member of the Flying Buttresses Improv Comedy Troupe in Chicago and currently plays bass with Indie Strings in Durham, NC. She lives in Durham with her husband, two daughters, cat, and dog.
